Should flowers on hydrangea bushes that have bloomed and are dying be cut off? if so, how far down?

It's amazing how hydrangea's come back thicker when cut back.

I would cut back to where stems shooting off from the main branch are in abundent.

Try it on one shoot........that the flower is dead.......go futher down the stem til you find an area that has a lot of stems clustered together. Then in a week, notice the new growth.
