Are Hydrangeas green all year round? I live in zone 8, many annuals are often perienials cuz of mild winters.?

I live in zone 5. Here the leaves all die off during the winter. Your zone is probably a lot different. This website below should be very helpful. Good luck!

In central Arkansas the leaves die off in the winter but come back each spring. Take the above advice and don't cut them back, just let them grow, you will have loads of blooms in 2 or 3 years.
Reply:Love Hydrangeas,

They are perrenials but do die off in winter, in zone 8 they may still keep most leaves but not flower as much. Make sure you do not do not cut the growth from year prior this is an actual plant that comes back and grows off of the old growth you cut them down and you start over! Another interesting thing about them is that they react to the acidity of the soil, the more acidic the bluer the flower or whiter depending on the kind you have the more basic the more red/pink or purple or greener they become, neat to play with them. If your soil is normal often times you will have some pinkish and some bluish flowers on one shrub, i love these guys not to mention some of the most clean and beautiful leaves you can find.
