Will hydrangeas die quickly if I use them in my wedding?

I wanted to use off-white hydranageas in small bunches in my aisle decorations but have been told they might die right away. Is that true?

They really aren't a good choice. How about silk instead? I love hydrangeas!
Reply:Hydrangeas from the florist will be "conditioned" treated in such a way to make them last as long as possible. If you are using flowers from your garden or a friend's yard you can do this yourself. Cut them the evening before, make an angled cut to make the exposed surface of the cut on the stem as large aspossible . (For better water uptake) Re-cut the stem under water. Place in lukewarm water so the flowers are above the waterline. Add some soda water and a tablet of aspirin to the water. Keep in a cool dark room. You may also buy little tubes from your florist that act as individual vases for your flowers.
Reply:If miss treated all flowers can die easily.... my friend decided to do all her flowers to save $$ and it backfired. All her roses opened up and died. Keep all flowers, well water and out of the heat. This means in the car too!! Flowers like hydrangeas are very delicate and could wilt. I would buy some and try it first- like time it and see what the temp is before doing it.
Reply:Hydrangeas with out water will fade fast. you could put them in water pic or use oasis. If they are just small bunches with out H2o you'll not be happy. Use them for the larger arrangements at the alter. Try no to use home grown ones. Those need to be treated.
Reply:I'm using hydrangeas as my main flower for my wedding. If it's very hot and they are out of water for a period of time, yes they will wilt. But the great thing about hydrangeas is that they will refresh again once they are back in water. You really do need to use the ones from a florist as opposed to ones you grow yourself. As others have stated, the florist flowers are conditioned to last longer.
