Will Hydrangeas grow in Kansas?

I really love them and want to grow them here!
Will Hydrangeas grow in Kansas?
They will grow in Kansas but you need to coddle them. The do prefer a moister environment and probably partial shade to shade. They turn crispy critter in full sun. Soils need to be rich.



In the arid climates I've lived I've had better luck with PeeGee hydrangea than I did the mopheads and lacecaps.....in fact the lacecaps were a disaster and the mopheads were more trouble than they were worth.



I've never grown the oakleaf but admired the fall color.

Reply:We didn't have any luck bringing them from Washington and planting them in Kansas. I think the soil is too dry and the weather is too extreme for them. ?? I'm in Topeka...but we haven't had any luck. Good luck to you!
Reply:I'm in Wichita %26amp; ordered some through a mail order catalog. They didn't last long, never flowered. Everything else I had did well. I don't think the soil here is right for them.
